Alicante

Alicante (Alacant, in Valencian), is a city and port in Spain, located on the Costa Blanca region. Alicante is the capital of the province of Alicante in the south of the Valencian Community, and it the second largest city in the region of Valencia. It is also an old historic Mediterranean port, and to this day , the port of Alicante, has been established as one of the most important ports in Spain for cruise traffic. The port of Alicante has ferries over to the Balearic islands and to Algeria. Alicante airport, El Altet, is one of the busiest airports in Spain with direct flight to a number of European cities.

Alicante has been one of the fastest growing cities in Spain, and this is mostly thanks to tourism. Alicante is home of a large university, with around 30 000 students. The city also serves as the headquarters of the European Union Intellectual Property Office and a sizeable population of European public workers live there.
